About

Red Channels is a series of film and video screenings happening in community and cultural spaces in New York City. The emphasis is on rare and radical works, re-contextualized and discussed in an open forum.

Since June 2009 we have screened films and videos by James Agee, Michelangelo Antonioni, Marguerite Duras, Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Pierre Gorin, Leo Hurwitz, Lewis Jacobs, Helen Levitt, Jay Leyda, Janice Loeb, Chris Marker, Sidney Meyers, Newsreel, Paper Tiger Television, Pier Paolo Pasolini, D.A. Pennebaker, Jackie Raynal, Alain Resnais, Eric Rohmer, Barney Rosset, Jean Rouch, Leo Seltzer, Agnes Varda, the Workers Film & Photo League, and World in Action.

We have presented programs at Anthology Film Archives, Bluestockings, The Brecht Forum, Maysles Cinema, 92Y-Tribeca, 16Beaver, and UnionDocs. We have worked with curators/organizers Ayreen Anastas, Kazembe Balagun, Maria Juliana Byck, Cristina Cacioppo, Cullen Gallagher, Benj Gerdes, Jessica Green, Steve Holmgren, Lenore Holz, Manny Kirchheimer, Philip Maysles, Jake Perlin, Rachael Rakes, and Cassim Shepard.

In April 2010 we collaborated with Rachael Rakes and DocTruck on two print publications, Resurrecting a Revolutionary Cinema (DT006/RC001) and Against Mystification (DT007/RC002, edited by Rakes). Later this Spring we hope to publish the debut issue of an online magazine we are launching as part of this project.
