A Woman's Reply: A Short Introduction to Agnes Varda

Thursday July 16th - 7PM
Bluestockings
172 Allen Street, New York, NY 10002

To celebrate the release of Agnes Varda's latest feature, The Beaches of Agnes, playing Film Forum July 1st through 14th, we will present a program of 7 of Varda's short films. The films span 25 years and utilize such genres as memoir; essay; silent cinema pastiche; radical travelogue; and feminist documentary. Varda is a member of the so-called “Left Bank” group of filmmakers (along with Alain Resnais, Chris Marker, Marguerite Duras, and Alain Robbe-Grillet), simultaneously more literary and political than their “New Wave” contemporaries.
