(In)Tangible Cultural Heritage: Oral Histories - Moore and Patterson

Monday August 10th - 7:30PM
Brecht Forum
451 West Street, New York, NY 10014

The second program in our BLACK AUGUST series will be a study and celebration of the life and work of two African American activists: Queen Mother Moore (1898-1996) and Louise Alone Thompson Patterson (1901-1999). Contemporaries, Harlem residents, friends comrades and collaborators with Marcus Garvey, Langston Hughes, Nelson Mandela, and William L. Patterson, and most importantly, pioneering women leaders. Rest assured, our event is not about their famous male associates, but rather an opportunity to hear radical women speak for themselves.

--Queen Mother Moore Speech at Greenhaven Prison - People's Communication Network, 1973, 17    minutes
